On August 6th, Austria officially acceded to the e-CMR protocol, becoming the 36th country to join the growing list of nations embracing digital transformation in road transport.
The adoption of the e-CMR protocol by Austria marks a significant milestone in enhancing the digitalization and connectivity for Europe's road transport network. With Austria's accession, any road transport involving the country can now be fully digitized, allowing for seamless and efficient operations and administration. This significant step enables shippers, transport companies and freight forwarders to immediately use the e-CMR for their shipments, unlocking the practical benefits of digital transportation.
Key benefits of using a digital e-CMR solution include:
- Reduction of paperwork and administrative burdens
- Enhanced transparency, traceability, and overall supply chain efficiency
- Lower process costs through automation, such as direct integration with transport management systems
- Real-time access to data and status for all parties involved, including sender, recipient, carrier, forwarder, authorities, and insurance in case of damage
- Instant electronic proof of delivery upon recipient's signature
- Easy document archiving and retrieval
