UNTRR and TransFollow Webinar: Transforming the transport industry with the e-CMR

On September 26, 2024, National Union of Road Hauliers from Romania (UNTRR) partnered with TransFollow to host a highly anticipated webinar focused on the digitalization of CMR. More than 200 participants from the road transport industry, including carriers, retailers, and professional associations from IRU member countries, attended the webinar. This highlights the increasing interest in digital solutions and the rapid adoption of eCMR across Europe.

The main topics covered in this webinar:
  • Legal framework for e-CMR: Director Florin Gagea from the State Inspectorate for Road Transport Control (ISCTR) provided insights into the legal aspects of implementing and monitoring e-CMR.
  • Survey results on e-CMR adoption: Mrs. Lorena Sandu, UNTRR legal advisor, presented findings from a recent survey examining the current state of e-CMR adoption among industry stakeholders.
  • Implementation and benefits of e-CMR: TransFollow specialists, including Mr. Hans Lip, COO, and Mr. Moritz Rössler, Sales & Integration Consultant, shared practical demonstrations highlighting the benefits of e-CMR. The digitization of transport documents is a major trend in Europe's transportation sector, with the potential to transform the transport industry by maximizing efficiency and minimizing administrative costs. In today's logistics environment, adopting electronic transport documents is no longer optional—it's becoming essential. The key question now is how quickly stakeholders can take their first step toward this transition. As the demand for efficiency and collaboration grows, shifting from traditional paper CMRs to digital formats will be crucial for all supply chain participants.

How TransFollow's e-CMR Platform Works

TransFollow’s e-CMR platform serves as a unifying ecosystem for supply chains, ensuring interoperability among all stakeholders. Key features of the platform include:

  • Transport Management: Streamlined handling of transport logistics.
  • Driver Management: Efficient tracking and management of drivers’ journeys.
  • CMR Document Management: Simplified digital handling and storage of CMR documents.
  • Real-Time Visibility: Enhanced transparency through real-time data access for all parties involved.
Benefits of e-CMR

Adopting an e-CMR solution offers numerous advantages, including:

  • Reduced administrative work: Less paperwork and streamlined processes.
  • Enhanced transparency and traceability: Improved tracking of shipments and documentation.
  • Cost savings: Automation and integration with transport management systems lead to lower manual errors and operational costs.
  • Real-time data access: Instant access to information and status updates for all involved parties.
  • Immediate proof of delivery: Electronic signatures provide instant confirmation upon delivery.
  • Simplified document management: Easy archiving and retrieval of documents.
A Long-standing Partnership

TransFollow has been a leader in the e-CMR since 2013, providing digital solutions for digitalizing transports with the eCMR that has gained recognition across Europe. The collaboration between TransFollow, UNTRR, and IRU (the International Road Transport Union) has been pivotal in advancing the adoption of electronic CMR letters, as outlined in the e-CMR protocol established by the United Nations CMR Convention.

The journey toward digitalization in Romania began in 2018, with the first e-CMR tests conducted by UNTRR and IRU, allowing several Romanian carriers to use electronic CMR documents through the TransFollow platform. This initiative marked the beginning of a transformative shift in how transport documentation is handled.
